THE RIVER TRIP

Andrew coordinated a river trip for all of us to get a quick trip on the water. We had to split up in two groups but it was still a lot of fun. Thanks, Andrew!

Bethany, Brittany, Alex & Brooklyn

Aunt Jess getting Alex ready for the water...
safety first!

Andrew, those girls need an adult in that raft with them...
come on...you know better than that!

Scott taking "The Beauties" down the river!

Gotta love Oregon!

Two of the many Bald Eagles seen on this trip...
in honor of Uncle Rob, I'm sure.

Me and my girls!

Brittany's in control...watch out!

Bonding time with Aunt Jess...

Andrew teaching Alex about his greatest
passion in life....fishing.

Out of the way, Uncle Andrew...
I got this handled!

"Look at that baby fish"...Poor, Uncle Andrew!
Trying so hard to impress his niece.

It's my turn to take "The Beauties" down the river

BROTHERS AND SPATULAS

So, Dad is working on his pancakes and Uncle Rob is working on more omelets! Its going to be a feast! The Brothers were doing so well sharing the kitchen...until something happened....a sideways glance, a spatula invading the territory of another chef, a daughter/niece asking for a smile...who knows??? All I know is that these are two retired Marines that have luckily put down their Mameluke swords for spatulas :)

NOT TO BE OUT DONE...

Dad decided it was his turn to take over the kitchen. He couldn't let his younger brother out-shine his own cooking skills! So, pancakes for everyone! Still waiting on the recipe, Dad! I'm your daughter for cryin' out loud...family! I won't give away your secret ingredients!

I do know the first step: Two bottles of wine
For the chef....not the pancakes!

Stir in clockwise direction...

Sample test...yep, they are good...continue!

Use a properly heated skillet

Scott and the girls enjoying Pop's pancakes

Everyone starts to get in on the action...

WHERE'S MY FOOD?

So, Scott sniffed out the food and was convinced one of the girls ate his omelet. The girls got photographic evidence of what it looks like to them to be interrogated by their Daddy.

"Did you eat my food"???

Uncle Rob starts on Scott's omelet. But, Scott warrants the "upgrade".
Canadian Bacon...

AND...hot sauce!

THE OMELET

Uncle Robert's step by step guide to make the perfect cheese omelet:

I should explain this first...several years ago, my Grandma Abblitt started telling me a story about how the Abblitt's taught her how to "poach" an egg. While sharing this story, Grandma got out the frying pan, poured in the milk, added the egg and began to poach the egg as she had been instructed many years ago.

I was so entrenched in this story (I love hearing family stories that explain why or how people do things) that I documented on film the step by step "poaching" method that was happening before my eyes. I need to do some research and find those pictures to add to this post...but, that will be for another day.

So, Uncle Rob asked to make an omelet for me....to which I gratefully accepted! And, in that simple question, it reminded me of when Grandma (Rob's Mother) made eggs for me. I found it only fitting to get another Abblitt "egg story" documented for the history books (or, blog).
And, here it is...

Grate the cheese:

Crack the eggs into the bowl:

Pour the eggs onto the skillet:

Spread the eggs over the entire skillet:

Add the previously grated cheese:

Fold into thirds:

Presentation:

AND, thought I should do my part and
demonstrate the eating of the perfect omelet!

HERE, KITTY...KITTY...KITTY

At Rob and Karen's...Brooklyn and Alex try to play with
"wild" cats on their property. And, I say "wild" because
Rob's 4 daughters have named them, feed them and give
them water. Not at the house, of course!
But, guess where they come when they get hungry???

Poor Uncle Robert...so outnumbered! Not in the same ratio, but...
Scott feels your pain! :)
